The Hindi word for rainbow is इंद्रधनुष (indradhanush). It is a compound of इंद्र (Indra, the god of storms), and धनुष (a bow, as in the weapon). It has been noted that Indra bears striking similarities to other European gods, such as Thor and Zeus. Some think they may have common origins dating to Assyrian times.
